Just past the first gold coin are two interlocking gears.
Wall-jump off the wall towards the coin to grab it. Hit the P-switch in the sub-level and run quickly across the bricks path it makes. You need to ride the gear down to this pipe, hop over and slip inside. Just before the door leading to the boss is a final gear that spins downward towards a green pipe nestled in lava. This will allow you to swoop in an nab the coin. Afterwards, use a flutter jump to reach the top of the flagpole.When you get to the hall of Thwomps, the first large one will destroy some bricks below it as it descends. They can be defeated by jumping on them, jumping into the block they are standing on, or spitting a hammer or fireball at them.
Upon dropping out of it, use Yoshi's flutter jump to reach the third Star Coin. Continue going, and collect the coins in this secret area. Just after the first one of these, there is a ledge. By eating them or their fireballs, Yoshi can spit fireballs back at enemies, which can be used to get a high combo. Upon returning to the main path, there are Piranha Plants that shoot fire. In a cluster of Warp Pipes, there is a hidden one in an indentation in the wall, which leads to the first bonus room. When a Hammer Bro is encountered, Yoshi can eat the hammers and spit them back at the Hammer Bro. Continue onwards, and use Yoshi to eat Koopas and spit their shells back out at enemies.
The first Star Coin is floating in midair. Go straight ahead with Yoshi, eating fruit. In a group of blocks on an elevated platform, the center one contains a Yoshi Egg. Run on to the high brick to get a power-up.
